VP, Film Business & Legal Affairs

Legendary Entertainment is hiring a VP, Film Business & Legal Affairs based in Los Angeles to sit at the center of its feature film development and production operation. This role owns the negotiation and drafting of deals across the full production lifecycle, from option agreements and writer deals through talent contracts, co-production structures, and distribution arrangements. It is a fit for a seasoned entertainment attorney or business affairs executive who has spent years in the room on major studio or independent feature film transactions.

About the Role

The VP, Film Business & Legal Affairs works inside Legendary’s film division, supporting a production slate that has included tentpole franchise features distributed through major studios. Day to day, this person manages deal flow across development, production, and rights acquisition, coordinating closely with creative, physical production, and finance teams to make sure agreements reflect the actual terms the business has committed to.

Key Responsibilities

• Negotiate, draft, and close a wide range of film contracts including option agreements, purchase agreements, writer and director deals, and on-screen talent agreements for feature film productions.
• Structure and document co-production and co-financing arrangements, including split-rights deals and output agreements with studio and streaming distribution partners.
• Advise internal creative and production teams on rights clearance, underlying rights issues, and chain of title across the feature film development slate.
• Manage outside counsel relationships on complex transactions, reviewing legal work product and controlling costs against deal timelines.
• Coordinate with the finance and physical production departments to align deal terms with budgets, bonding requirements, and production schedules.
• Track and administer existing deal obligations, including turnaround rights, sequel and remake provisions, and backend participation structures.

What You Bring

• A minimum of eight to ten years in business and legal affairs at a major studio, mini-major, or prominent independent production company with a focus on feature film.
• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating and closing on-screen talent deals, literary acquisitions, and co-production agreements in the feature film space.
• Fluency with guild agreements including WGA, DGA, and SAG-AFTRA minimum basic agreements as they apply to feature film production.
• Strong understanding of rights acquisition, copyright chain of title, and international co-production treaty structures.
