VFX Artist (Splinter Cell Remake)
- Full Time
- Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Ubisoft
Ubisoft is hiring a VFX Artist for the Splinter Cell Remake at their studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This role sits within the game’s VFX department, responsible for building real-time particle systems, environmental effects, and cinematic sequences that drive moment-to-moment player immersion. It suits a mid-to-senior VFX artist who has worked inside a live game engine and understands how to balance visual quality against performance budgets.
About the Role
You’ll be embedded with the Splinter Cell production team, working across both gameplay and scripted sequences to build effects that serve the game’s tone and creative direction. A typical day involves iterating on smoke, explosion, and environmental VFX inside the game engine, reviewing playtest feedback, and syncing with programmers on tooling needs. This is production-facing work with direct ownership over effect quality from initial build through final integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Build real-time particle systems and textures for gameplay sequences, scripted events, and cinematic moments within the Splinter Cell VFX pipeline.
- Produce environmental and in-game effects including smoke, explosions, and atmospheric elements that serve both gameplay readability and narrative tone.
- Integrate VFX assets directly into the game engine, ensuring effects perform within established technical constraints.
- Partner with the programming team to identify workflow gaps and contribute to the development of internal VFX tools.
- Refine and optimize effects based on playtest results and feedback from cross-functional production teams.
- Work with the creative leadership team to align effect priorities with the overall visual direction of the project.
What You Bring
- Proven experience as a VFX artist within a game engine environment, with shipped titles in your credits.
- Hands-on proficiency with real-time particle systems and VFX integration tools used in AAA game production.
- A portfolio demonstrating environmental and cinematic effects work across multiple production types.
- Strong understanding of optimization techniques and the ability to deliver performant effects within technical budgets.
- Experience working within cross-functional production pipelines alongside programmers, artists, and directors.
