Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $35,000/year

Nexstar’s WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX43 in Portsmouth, VA is hiring a TV News Video Editor to cut content across all newscasts for both stations. This is a post-production role embedded directly in a working broadcast newsroom, where output is measured in daily air-ready segments, packages, and live show support. It suits an editor who is comfortable in a deadline-driven news environment and knows how to move fast without sacrificing quality.

About the Role

The TV News Video Editor works within the newsroom post workflow, cutting reporter packages, vo-sots, and other broadcast-ready content for multiple daily newscasts across two stations. A typical shift involves pulling feeds, syncing audio, and turning edits quickly as stories develop and rundowns shift. The role covers all shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, which is standard for broadcast news editing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit news packages, vo-sots, and tosses to air-ready quality under strict broadcast deadlines for both WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX43 newscasts.
  • Manage multiple edit requests simultaneously as stories break and producers adjust rundowns throughout the day.
  • Operate video editing equipment proficiently across the full broadcast news editing workflow from ingest to output.
  • Coordinate with producers and reporters on edit priorities, timing, and format requirements specific to each newscast.
  • Maintain quality control on all outgoing content, including proper audio levels, chyron accuracy, and format compliance for on-air delivery.
  • Make independent editorial decisions during live news situations when direct supervision is not available.

What You Bring

  • Minimum one year of hands-on experience operating professional video editing equipment in a broadcast or production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to cut under real deadline pressure, typical of daily broadcast news post-production workflow.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with producers, reporters, and newsroom staff.
  • Comfort working any shift in an around-the-clock newsroom, including weekends and major holidays.
  • Some college education preferred, with familiarity with television newsroom operations considered a plus.
