Lead Texture Artist – Photoreal VFX, Hybrid
- Full Time
- London, England, UK
The Walt Disney Company (France)
The Walt Disney Company (France) is hiring a Lead Texture Artist for their VFX division based in London, England, UK. This role sits within the texturing department and is responsible for delivering photoreal hero assets to ILM-quality standards across high-end feature film and episodic television productions. It suits an experienced texture lead who has already shipped work on large-scale VFX pipeline productions and is ready to own both the creative and operational sides of a team.
About the Role
The Lead Texture Artist works within a VFX production environment, guiding a team through the full texturing process from initial bids through to final deliverables on high-profile Disney productions. Day-to-day work involves reviewing artist output, setting technical direction, and coordinating with supervisors and production to manage scope and schedule. The role operates on a hybrid model with required on-site days in London and some remote flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of texture artists across multiple shots and sequences, maintaining consistent photoreal visual effects quality throughout the show.
- Establish and enforce texturing workflow standards and technical strategy across the VFX pipeline, ensuring efficient asset delivery at every stage.
- Bid texture work at the start of a show, breaking down assets and accurately estimating artist time against production schedules.
- Delegate tasks across the team based on artist strengths and show priorities, reviewing work daily against supervisor and client expectations.
- Act as the primary texturing point of contact for VFX supervisors and production, managing feedback loops and communicating scope changes clearly.
- Drive the development and documentation of texturing best practices that can be carried forward across future episodic television and feature film projects.
What You Bring
- Demonstrable experience leading texture teams on large-scale feature film production or high-end episodic VFX work.
- A strong reel showing photoreal character and environment texture work delivered at major VFX facility standards.
- Proficiency in industry-standard texturing and look development tools used within a modern VFX pipeline, including Mari, Substance, and USD-based workflows.
- Proven ability to bid, schedule, and manage texture work across a full production cycle from pre-production through to delivery.
- Experience working closely with rigging, modelling, and look development departments within a post-production workflow.
Why This Role
The Walt Disney Company operates one of the most active production slates in the industry, giving the Lead Texture Artist consistent access to high-profile work across both theatrical and streaming titles. The London team works to ILM-quality benchmarks, which represents a genuine measure of where the bar sits. For a texture lead looking to grow within a structured, well-resourced VFX environment, the scope of work here is hard to match.
