Job Position(s): Crowd Simulation Supervisor
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Rodeo FX is hiring a Crowd Simulation Supervisor to join their VFX pipeline team in Montreal, Canada. This role sits at the intersection of artistic direction and technical execution, responsible for the end-to-end quality of crowd simulations from agent setup through final deliverable across feature film and episodic television productions. It suits a senior crowd TD or simulation lead who has moved beyond execution and is ready to own both the creative standard and the team behind it.

About the Role

The Crowd Simulation Supervisor works closely with CG, animation, layout, and compositing departments to ensure simulations read correctly on screen and integrate cleanly into the broader VFX pipeline. Day to day, that means running dailies, resolving rig and cache issues, and setting the technical direction for how crowd systems are built and scaled across a show. Rodeo FX works across high-volume VFX productions, so the person in this seat needs to manage quality and throughput simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define simulation methodology for each project, selecting and configuring tools such as Houdini Crowd, Golaem, or Maya based on the specific demands of the production.
  • Supervise the crowd artist team through briefings, dailies, and ongoing shot reviews, maintaining a consistent visual standard across all deliverables.
  • Translate director and supervisor intent into believable on-screen crowd behavior, accounting for scale, timing, and narrative legibility.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to agent rigs, motion cycles, simulation stability, and cache management within the post-production workflow.
  • Contribute to resource planning at the start of each project, including task estimation, artist casting, and milestone tracking through delivery.
  • Document and refine crowd department workflows to reduce simulation iteration time and build repeatable methods across different shows.

What You Bring

  • Several years of production experience in crowd simulation within a VFX studio environment, with credits on feature film or high-end episodic television.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Houdini Crowd and at least one additional crowd simulation tool such as Golaem or Massive.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading a team of artists through full VFX production cycles.
  • Solid understanding of rigging, motion capture cycles, and how crowd agents interact with animation and layout pipelines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across departments including compositing, CG supervision, and production management.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX has built a strong reputation across premium VFX productions and operates studios across multiple cities, giving this role real visibility within a studio that invests in department-level craft. The Crowd Simulation Supervisor position carries genuine ownership over both the creative output and the technical direction of the crowd department on each project. For a senior crowd specialist ready to shape how a studio approaches simulation at scale, this is a substantive step.

Apply now for the Crowd Simulation Supervisor role at Rodeo FX and bring your simulation experience to a studio that takes crowd work seriously.
