Vancouver Actors Guide
Vancouver Actors Guide is seeking a World War Z production volunteer based in Vancouver, BC. This is a non-union, unpaid entry-level role supporting a VFX artist through the hands-on production workflow of an independent film project. It suits someone early in their screen career who wants real set and post-production experience working directly alongside a practitioner in the VFX pipeline.
About the Role
World War Z sits within a small independent production environment where contributors work closely with an experienced VFX artist across multiple stages of the project. The day-to-day involves supporting visual effects work from pre-production prep through to deliverables, with no AI tools in the workflow. Given the scale of the project, each person carries real responsibility rather than sitting on the sidelines of a large departmental team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead VFX artist in organizing and tracking assets across the production workflow.
- Support shot reviews and provide feedback documentation during the VFX pipeline process.
- Prepare reference materials and research as required by the VFX department.
- Coordinate continuity of project files and maintain version control across deliverables.
- Attend scheduled production sessions and contribute to meeting the project timeline.
- Communicate clearly with the VFX lead on task progress and flag any production bottlenecks.
What You Bring
- An interest in visual effects, independent film production, or post-production workflow at any experience level.
- Familiarity with basic VFX or compositing concepts, even at a self-taught or student level.
- Ability to commit to a regular, modest schedule without dropping off mid-production.
- A current headshot and resume ready to submit through the Vancouver Actors Guide application process.
- Non-union status, as this is not a IATSE or SAG-affiliated engagement.
Why This Role
Vancouver Actors Guide has long served as a trusted free resource for the Vancouver acting and film community, connecting emerging professionals with real production opportunities. This World War Z project offers direct mentorship from a working VFX artist, which is genuinely rare at the unpaid independent film production level. The commitment is described as small, making it accessible for someone balancing other work or training.
Apply now for the World War Z volunteer role through Vancouver Actors Guide and take a concrete step into working feature film production.
