VFX Pipeline Technician; Hybrid
- Full Time
- London, England, UK
The Walt Disney Company
The Walt Disney Company is hiring a VFX Pipeline Technician at ILM London, based in Greater London on a hybrid schedule. This role sits within the technical pipeline team at Industrial Light and Magic, where the work centres on building and maintaining the production tools and workflows that keep VFX artists moving efficiently from shot to shot. It is a strong fit for a technically grounded candidate who understands the realities of VFX production and can bridge the gap between software engineering and creative output.
About the Role
The VFX Pipeline Technician works inside ILM’s London studio, one of the most respected VFX facilities in feature film production, supporting artists across departments on live projects. Day to day, this means diagnosing pipeline issues as they arise on the floor, writing tools to solve recurring production workflow problems, and working directly with artists who need technical support to hit their deadlines. The role operates at the intersection of software development and hands-on post-production support.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within the VFX pipeline to minimise disruption to artist workflows during active production.
- Write and maintain pipeline tools and scripts using C/C++ and related languages to improve shot turnaround and reduce manual steps in the post-production workflow.
- Work directly with VFX artists to understand their technical pain points and translate those into practical, efficient software solutions.
- Support the integration of new tools and technologies into existing production pipelines without disrupting ongoing work.
- Document pipeline systems and tool changes clearly so that the wider technical team can maintain and build on them over time.
- Identify inefficiencies across the animation and compositing pipeline and propose practical improvements backed by production data.
What You Bring
- A degree or equivalent background in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++, with experience writing production tools in a VFX or animation studio environment.
- Familiarity with VFX pipeline architecture, including how assets, shots, and renders move through a feature film or episodic production.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, specifically the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical artists under production pressure.
- Prior experience in a VFX pipeline role or similar technical position at a film or animation studio is an advantage.
Why This Role
ILM London has been behind the visual effects on some of the most technically demanding productions in recent cinema, and the scale of work coming through the studio reflects that reputation. For a VFX Pipeline Technician, being embedded in that environment means working on problems that actually matter to production, not just internal tooling in isolation. The Walt Disney Company offers real career development in a technical discipline that is central to the future of film and television production.
Apply now for the VFX Pipeline Technician position at The Walt Disney Company and bring your pipeline expertise to ILM London.
