Job Position(s): Software Developer – Modelling, Groom and World Building Remote, 3 Locations
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

DNEG is hiring a Software Developer specialising in Modelling, Groom and World Building, based remotely or from its studios in Bengaluru, Mumbai, or Chennai. This role sits within DNEG’s Production Technology group, building and maintaining the software tools that artists in the modelling, grooming, and world-building departments rely on to deliver assets across feature film and episodic television VFX pipelines. If you come from a software background and have a genuine understanding of how CG assets move through a VFX pipeline, this role is structured around that intersection.

About the Role

The Software Product Development team at DNEG builds the internal tools and pipeline infrastructure that support some of the most technically demanding VFX work in the industry. Day to day, this means writing, testing, and iterating on software that directly impacts how modelling and groom artists build and manage characters, environments, and world-building assets across active productions. You will work closely with department leads and TDs to understand production requirements and translate them into stable, usable tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software tools that support modelling and groom workflows within a feature film VFX pipeline, from asset creation through to shot delivery.
  • Build and maintain world-building pipeline components that allow environment artists to assemble, manage, and version large-scale CG scenes efficiently.
  • Work with rigging, CFX, and lookdev departments to ensure modelling and groom tools integrate cleanly across the broader asset pipeline.
  • Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks that slow down artist workflows during production-critical periods.
  • Write clear documentation and provide technical support to artists and TDs adopting new or updated tools.
  • Contribute to code reviews and help maintain consistent standards across the production technology codebase.

What You Bring

  • Solid Python development experience within a VFX or animation studio environment, with exposure to C++ considered a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard DCC applications including Maya, Houdini, or Katana as they relate to modelling and groom workflows.
  • Familiarity with USD and its role in managing complex scene hierarchies across a production pipeline.
  • Experience building or supporting tools within a structured VFX pipeline, ideally across multiple feature film or episodic television credits.
  • Understanding of how groom and modelling assets are built, versioned, and published in a large-scale studio context.

Why This Role

DNEG is one of the most consistently credited VFX studios in feature film production, with a track record across major studio tentpoles and awards-recognised work. The Production Technology group has direct influence over how artists work, which means software built here ends up shaping real production outcomes rather than sitting in a backlog. The India studios in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Chennai are active production hubs, not satellite offices.
