Job Type
Blizzard Entertainment is hiring a Senior Composer (SFD / Cinematics) based in Irvine, CA, with remote work arrangements available. This role sits within Blizzard’s Music Team and focuses on original score composition for in-game cinematics, pre-rendered story sequences, and interactive audio across Blizzard’s game titles. It’s a staff position built for an experienced composer who has worked across games, film scoring, or television and knows how to carry a cue from concept through implementation.
About the Role
The Blizzard Music Team is a small, senior-level group responsible for all scored content across the company’s catalog of IP, from live-service games to major cinematic releases. As Senior Composer (SFD / Cinematics), you’ll work directly with the Music Director and production partners to plan musical scope, track delivery schedules, and ensure tonal consistency across a project’s full run. A typical day moves between composing, directing recording sessions, and working inside game audio pipelines to integrate and test music in context.
Key Responsibilities
- Compose original score for SFDs, in-engine cinematics, and gameplay moments across Blizzard game titles, maintaining aesthetic continuity within each project’s established musical identity.
- Collaborate with the Music Director and fellow composers to develop thematic material and ensure musical cohesion from early production through final implementation.
- Manage your own delivery pipeline in coordination with production, flagging scheduling risks and adjusting priorities as the project evolves through development milestones.
- Organize and direct live recording sessions with orchestral or ensemble musicians, handling session prep, communication with contractors, and on-the-floor direction.
- Implement scored content inside game audio systems, working with audio middleware and level editors to ensure music performs correctly within interactive media contexts.
- Contribute to the ongoing musical legacy of Blizzard’s IP by building on established themes and introducing new compositional ideas appropriate to each game world.
What You Bring
- Eight or more years of professional composition credits across games, film scoring, television, or interactive media.
- Expert-level proficiency in at least one professional DAW, including Cubase, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or Digital Performer, alongside fluency in modern virtual instrument libraries.
- Demonstrated experience directing recording sessions and working directly with musicians in a professional studio context.
- Working knowledge of music notation software such as Sibelius or Finale, with a grounding in orchestration and traditional music theory.
- Prior experience inside game development environments, including familiarity with level editors or game audio implementation tools, is a strong advantage.
Why This Role
Blizzard Entertainment carries one of the most recognized catalogs of game music in the industry, and this position puts you inside the team responsible for continuing that body of work across major titles. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package covering medical, dental, vision, and financial wellness programs. For a composer working in game audio or film scoring who wants staff-level stability and the creative scope of a large production slate, this is a substantive next step.
