About the Role

KDKA-TV operates as part of CBS News and Stations, and this Photographer position supports an award-winning newsroom covering Western Pennsylvania across multiple distribution platforms. Day-to-day work involves shooting in the field alongside reporters and producers, executing live shots, and editing packages that meet broadcast standards. You are expected to handle the full chain from field acquisition through post, including VO/SOTs, package edits, and quality control before air.

Key Responsibilities

• Shoot broadcast-quality video and natural sound for daily newscasts, breaking news, and special coverage across KDKA’s broadcast and streaming platforms.
• Operate broadcast camera, audio, lighting, and live transmission equipment in the field under deadline pressure and changing conditions.
• Set up and execute live shots safely, including during severe weather and major community events throughout Western Pennsylvania.
• Edit news content including VO/SOTs and packages, applying sound pacing, shot sequencing, color correction, and audio balancing to meet station standards.
• Work directly with reporters, producers, and assignment desk editors to shape visual storytelling that adds context and clarity to each story.
• Support wall-to-wall coverage during major breaking news events and contribute to enterprise reporting and special projects as assigned.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated experience as a News Photographer in a broadcast news production environment, ideally at a market-level television station.
• Proficiency with broadcast camera systems, field audio, live transmission equipment, and non-linear editing platforms used in episodic television news.
• Solid understanding of CBS News and Stations editorial standards and field safety protocols, or equivalent experience at a comparable broadcast network.
• Ability to perform basic color correction and audio balancing to technical broadcast delivery specifications.
• Strong news judgment and the ability to work independently in the field while staying connected to newsroom priorities in real time.
