MPT Videographer/ Director

Maryland Public Television is hiring an MPT Videographer/Director to join their production team at their Owings Mills headquarters, just outside Baltimore. About the Role

The MPT Videographer/Director works across the full production workflow at Maryland Public Television, a PBS member station that produces locally and nationally distributed programming. On any given day, this person might be pulling focus on a single-camera field shoot in the morning and operating a production switcher for a studio multi-camera production in the afternoon. The role demands ownership of both the technical and creative sides of broadcast television production, from pre-production planning through the strike after wrap.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate portable video camera packages, audio mixers, and location lighting rigs to capture broadcast-quality footage for regional and national television productions.
• Direct multi-camera studio productions, including operating the production switcher, managing graphics equipment, and timing segments as Technical Director.
• Function as Director of Photography on location shoots, making decisions on composition, camera movement, continuity, and sequencing.
• Coordinate pre-production meetings with producers, reporters, and clients to align on deliverables before cameras roll.
• Direct on-camera talent and floor crew, including operating as floor director, robotic camera operator, or teleprompter operator as production needs shift.
• Maintain state production vehicles, including driving responsibly on location and keeping accurate maintenance logs.

What You Bring

• Five years of experience in television or film production using portable camera and audio equipment, with up to two years substitutable by 30 college credit hours per year.
• Demonstrated experience shooting broadcast news packages or feature television content on location, with strong instincts for framing and following action.
• Proficiency with production switchers and studio technical directing within a multi-camera broadcast television setup.
• FAA Part 107 certification or equivalent drone operating experience for videography is preferred.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision while meeting time and budget constraints across diverse production environments.
