CFX Artist

Scanline VFX, operating under the Eyeline Studios umbrella, is hiring a CFX Artist based in Hyderabad to join their character effects pipeline. This role sits within the CFX department and is responsible for producing photo-realistic simulations of cloth, hair, and muscle systems that integrate directly with animation and lighting for feature film and episodic television productions. It suits a simulation specialist with live-action VFX credits and a strong grasp of how character effects serve the broader VFX pipeline.

About the Role

The CFX Artist works across feature film and episodic series productions, building and refining character simulations that hold up under the scrutiny of final-frame lighting and compositing. Day to day, this means running cloth and hair solves in Maya and Houdini, iterating against supervisor notes, and doing post-sim cleanup through sculpting and modeling to hit the quality bar before shots move downstream. You will coordinate directly with animation, rigging, and lighting to make sure CFX elements land correctly in context.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and deliver production-ready cloth, hair, and muscle simulations using Maya and Houdini at feature film quality standards.
• Iterate on simulation solves based on feedback from VFX supervision and client reviews, adjusting parameters to meet both technical and creative notes.
• Perform post-processing on simulation results through sculpting and modeling techniques to correct artifacts and finalize shape before lighting handoff.
• Partner with rigging and animation departments to identify and resolve any upstream issues that affect how CFX systems behave on character performances.
• Troubleshoot solver failures, caching issues, and pipeline conflicts that arise during production, escalating complex technical problems to supervision with clear documentation.
• Maintain consistent quality and naming conventions across all CFX deliverables throughout the production process.

What You Bring

• Minimum three years of CFX simulation experience in live-action visual effects for feature films or episodic television.
• Proficiency in Maya and Houdini as primary simulation tools is required.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating cloth, hair, and muscle simulations across varied character types and production contexts.
• Solid understanding of anatomy, physics principles, and how locomotion affects cloth and hair behavior on screen.
• Experience with CG grooming tools such as Xgen or Houdini grooming, Python or VEX scripting, and familiarity with character rigging are each a plus.
