Job Position(s): Award-Winning Videographer: Public Safety Stories
Project Type: Documentary
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Metropolitan Police is hiring an Award-Winning Videographer: Public Safety Stories based in Central London, England, UK. This role sits within the Met’s communications department, producing short-form social content, documentary features, and campaign video across a range of public-facing platforms. It’s a good fit for a shooter-editor comfortable working in unscripted, documentary-style production who can move between intimate one-camera setups and larger planned shoots.

About the Role

The Award-Winning Videographer: Public Safety Stories works inside Metropolitan Police’s in-house content team, producing original video journalism and documentary pieces that cover the real work of officers and senior leadership across the City of Westminster. Day-to-day production spans location shoots, sit-down interviews, and post-production editing for social video formats including TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube. The output ranges from quick-turnaround social clips to longer documentary storytelling pieces built for major campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute on-location video shoots, handling camera operation, lighting setup, and sound capture across varied and sometimes unpredictable environments.
  • Edit finished pieces to broadcast-quality standards, managing the full post-production workflow from ingestion and assembly through colour grade and audio mix.
  • Develop documentary-style narratives in collaboration with officers and communications leads, shaping interview-driven stories for general public audiences.
  • Shoot and cut short-form vertical content optimised for TikTok and Instagram Reels, adapting storytelling technique to each platform’s format requirements.
  • Produce longer YouTube features and campaign films that require structured pre-production, including scripting, shot-listing, and release scheduling.
  • Photograph stills on location to support digital content needs across web and social channels.

What You Bring

  • A demonstrable track record of documentary production or video journalism credits, ideally across both short-form social and longer feature formats.
  • Strong camera operating skills with professional-grade cinema or broadcast cameras, and confident single-operator location shooting experience.
  • Proficiency in a professional non-linear editing system, with Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro being the industry standard for this type of production.
  • A working understanding of colour grading and audio post-production at the editorial level.
  • Experience producing content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube within a professional or institutional context.

Why This Role

Metropolitan Police operates one of the most visible public communications platforms in UK policing, giving this Award-Winning Videographer: Public Safety Stories access to stories that genuinely reach broad national audiences. The in-house setup means direct ownership of projects from shoot through delivery, without the intermediary layers common in agency or production company environments. For a videographer wanting to build a documentary and social content portfolio with real public impact, the subject matter and platform reach here are hard to match.
