Job Type
KQED is hiring a Senior Video Editor based in San Francisco, CA, to lead post-production across its Digital Video portfolio. This role sits squarely in the edit suite, owning the full post-production workflow for midform YouTube content and vertical video series across KQED’s Food, Guides, and Technology editorial verticals. It’s a fit for an editor who has outgrown purely cutting and is ready to set the creative and technical standards others work to.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of Video Content Development, this Senior Video Editor position operates within KQED’s Digital Video department, where the output spans original YouTube series and platform-specific vertical content. Day to day, that means cutting high-profile productions yourself while also reviewing cuts from staff and freelance editors, managing post-production schedules, and keeping the pipeline running cleanly across multiple simultaneous projects. The post-production workflow here covers everything from media management and color correction to audio finishing and delivery specs across broadcast and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end post-production on original digital video content, ensuring all deliverables meet platform-specific technical specifications for YouTube, vertical video, broadcast, and long-term archive.
- Establish and enforce editorial best practices and post-production workflow standards across the Digital Video department.
- Edit complex, high-profile productions directly while providing quality control and creative oversight on cuts handled by on-call editors and freelancers.
- Supervise and mentor on-call Video Editors through editorial feedback, technical guidance, and ongoing professional development.
- Serve as the department’s primary resource for troubleshooting post-production pipeline issues, proposing technical solutions, and escalating infrastructure concerns to TV Engineering when needed.
- Collaborate with motion graphic artists, composers, illustrators, and producers to deliver visually compelling content across multiple editorial verticals.
What You Bring
- Extensive experience editing digital video and broadcast content, with a track record of credits across episodic or serialized non-fiction formats.
- Advanced proficiency in industry-standard post-production software, with deep knowledge of media management, color correction, and audio finishing tools.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain post-production workflows in a multi-production environment.
- Experience mentoring editors and providing creative direction within a structured editorial department.
- Strong command of delivery specifications across digital platforms and broadcast television.

This Senior Video Editor position offers real creative authority over a growing digital video slate, not just execution of someone else’s vision. The role is hybrid, based in San Francisco, CA, and pays between $110,160 and $137,700 annually.
