- Full Time
- Urbana, IL, US
University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is hiring a Videographer for the College of Fine and Applied Arts, based in Urbana, IL. This role sits within the Office of Marketing and Communications, where the focus is producing video content for web, social media, alumni engagement, and student recruitment across a major public university arts college. It suits a working video producer and editor who is comfortable owning a production from pre-production through delivery and has experience managing others on set.
About the Role
The Videographer works directly with the Assistant Dean and the broader marketing and communications team to support the College of Fine and Applied Arts brand through original video content. Day-to-day production workflow includes shooting interviews, events, and b-roll on location, then cutting fully formatted deliverables optimized for multiple platforms. This person also hires, trains, and supervises a crew of student videographers, making it as much a production management role as a hands-on camera and post-production position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead video production shoots from planning through final export, including interview setups, event coverage, and b-roll capture for digital marketing content.
- Edit and format video content for web, social media, and alumni communications using non-linear editing software.
- Hire, train, and supervise student workers in both production and post-production workflows.
- Research and coordinate on-camera interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni, including developing questions and scripts.
- Maintain production equipment and organize archived footage with appropriate metadata and usage permissions.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to align video output with the college’s digital marketing strategy and brand guidelines.
What You Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in film and video production, cinematography, documentary film, photojournalism, or a closely related field.
- At least one year of professional experience in video production, camera operation, video lighting and composition, or non-linear video editing.
- Working knowledge of video production and editing software, motion graphics tools, and current social media platform best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage people and projects across concurrent production timelines.
- Experience producing content across multiple formats and channels, from long-form documentary-style pieces to short-form social content.
Why This Role
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is one of the country’s leading public research universities, and the College of Fine and Applied Arts supports a wide range of disciplines, giving this Videographer consistent access to compelling subject matter across music, theater, art, and design.
