Associate Producer

This role sits inside the newsroom, supporting daily broadcast television news output across linear, streaming, web, and social platforms under live deadline conditions. About the Role

The Associate Producer works within the news production department alongside line producers, field crews, and digital teams to keep multiple daily newscasts on air and online. On any given shift, this person is writing broadcast copy, pulling together graphic elements, and helping coordinate live field coverage as stories develop in real time. The role sits at the intersection of traditional broadcast television and multi-platform digital publishing, which makes it a genuine training ground for producers moving up in local television news.

Key Responsibilities

• Write clean, conversational broadcast scripts and build graphic elements in Chyron LUCI or Axis for daily newscasts and streaming broadcasts on tight deadlines.
• Support control room operations during live newscasts, coordinating live shots, field talk-backs, and breaking news coverage with on-air talent and directors.
• Publish and adapt news content for web and mobile using Spark CMS, maintaining accuracy and speed across digital platforms.
• Manage field communications, schedule interviews, and assist with organizing package shoots in coordination with photographers and reporters.
• Monitor iNews and BitCentral systems to track rundown changes, incoming feeds, and story updates throughout each broadcast day.
• Distribute content across social media platforms to serve the station’s digital audience in real time alongside broadcast coverage.

What You Bring

• At least one year of producing or newsgathering experience at a commercial television station is preferred.
• Working knowledge of newsroom systems including iNews, BitCentral, Chyron LUCI or Axis, Spark CMS, and Slack.
• Demonstrated ability to write broadcast copy with strong grammar, spelling, and visual storytelling instincts.
• Experience editing video segments for broadcast is a meaningful advantage in this role.
• A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.
