Nexstar Broadcasting is hiring a Part-Time Production Grip / Utility at KTLA in Los Angeles, CA. This is a live television broadcast role sitting firmly in the grip and utilities department, covering large-scale special events like parade coverage where cable management, camera support, and equipment logistics all run simultaneously. If you have a background in live remote broadcasts and know your way around fiber, triax, and RF systems, this is the kind of call that suits your skillset.

About the Role

You will be working as part of the technical crew on live televised special events for KTLA, one of Los Angeles’s most established local broadcast stations. A typical day on this gig starts with overnight or early morning setup along an outdoor event route, running cable, prepping camera platforms, and coordinating with engineering and transmission teams before air. Through the broadcast and into strike, you are the crew member keeping the physical infrastructure of the live production running clean and safe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, label, and maintain camera, audio, fiber, triax, and power cabling along parade routes and live event footprints.
  • Support camera operators with positioning, lens changes, monitor placement, and equipment adjustments during setup and live coverage.
  • Build, maintain, and strike camera platforms, risers, and technical work areas as directed by the production crew.
  • Move and secure production equipment including cameras, tripods, pedestals, monitors, and generators across the event footprint.
  • Monitor cable runs throughout the broadcast to prevent signal interruption, equipment damage, or public safety hazards.
  • Assist engineering and transmission personnel with RF systems including Starlink and Dejero deployment and troubleshooting during live remote broadcasts.

What You Bring

  • Three to five years of professional experience as a grip or utility in live television or large-scale event production.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber-optic transmission, RF systems, and broadcast cable management in remote production environments.
  • Proven credits on large-scale live remote broadcasts or parade coverage, ideally in a local or network broadcast context.
  • Comfort working outdoors for extended periods, including on elevated platforms, scaffolding, and camera risers.
  • Availability for overnight setups, early call times, weekends, and holidays as required by the live event production schedule.
  • Current IATSE membership or willingness to join, as this is a union position subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Why This Role

KTLA has a long history of producing some of Los Angeles’s most-watched live special events broadcasts, giving crew members real credits on high-profile local television production. This position pays $46.19 per hour and is available immediately. Nexstar Broadcasting operates one of the largest local broadcast networks in the country, which means working here puts you inside a serious production infrastructure with consistent live event work.
