Job Type
Syracuse University is hiring a Video Editor Associate in Syracuse, NY to join the post-production team supporting SU Global, the university’s online learning initiative. This role sits squarely in post-production, where the editor takes projects from ingest through final delivery, cutting academic video content for online course distribution. It’s a strong fit for an editor who’s comfortable working inside a structured post-production workflow and wants to apply professional production skills to educational media.
About the Role
The Video Editor Associate works within a dedicated post-production department alongside instructional designers, multimedia designers, and a Postproduction Manager to build out video content for online academic courses. Day-to-day work covers the full post-production pipeline, from media management and assembly cuts to color correction, sound sweetening, compression, and final archive. This is an on-campus, full-time position with occasional evening and weekend availability expected based on project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Ingest, log, sync, and organize raw media at the start of each project, then execute post-production setup through to final delivery and digital asset management.
- Assemble footage through string-outs, rough cuts, fine cuts, and picture lock while maintaining consistent quality standards across the course video library.
- Receive and implement editorial notes from producers, instructional designers, and faculty members, incorporating feedback across multiple review rounds.
- Perform initial color correction passes and preliminary sound sweetening to bring deliverables to broadcast-ready standards before final quality control checks.
- Compress, upload, and archive final video files, maintaining organized records of master files with full backup coverage on cloud and server-based storage systems.
- Provide motion graphics support using Adobe After Effects and assist with on-set production when the shoot schedule requires additional crew.
What You Bring
- A BFA or BA in Cinema, Editing, or Post-Production, or three or more years of professional video production experience in a post-production workflow environment.
- Proficiency across Adobe Premiere, Media Encoder, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, and DaVinci Resolve is required for this role.
- Solid working knowledge of video codecs, transcoding for web delivery, and file management across networked and cloud-based storage systems.
- Strong organizational and communication skills suited to managing multiple courses in parallel with regular status updates to the Postproduction Manager.
- A post-production certification such as Adobe Certified User or DaVinci Resolve Certified User is preferred but not required.
Why This Role
Syracuse University is building out SU Global as a dedicated infrastructure for accessible online education, which means this post-production team is growing with real investment behind it rather than operating as a side function of a larger department. The pay range for this full-time position is $24.50 to $26.92 per hour, with standard university hours and summers running a slightly adjusted schedule. For an editor looking to build a stable career in educational media production without leaving professional post-production standards behind, this is a grounded opportunity with institutional backing.
Apply now for the Video Editor Associate position at Syracuse University and bring your post-production skills to a team building something from the ground up.
