Project Type: Animation
Job Date: Full Time

Behaviour Interactive is hiring a VFX Artist Intern for Fall 2026, based out of their Montreal, Quebec studio. This internship sits within the VFX department and focuses on creating, implementing, and optimizing real-time visual effects inside a live game production pipeline, covering environmental, gameplay, and character-based VFX output. It suits a student or early-career artist with hands-on experience in particle systems and Unreal Engine 5 who wants structured exposure to a professional VFX pipeline on a shipped title.

About the Role

The VFX Artist Intern joins the art team working directly on Blight Survival, one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, giving this position real production weight from day one. Daily work involves building high-fidelity VFX assets, supporting design and technical teams in translating art direction into in-engine effects, and learning to profile and optimize shaders and post-processing effects for performance. This is a full-time, four-month internship beginning September 2026, requiring 37.5 hours per week with a hybrid presence at the Montreal office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement environmental, gameplay, and character-based visual effects directly within Unreal Engine 5 for an active game production.
  • Build high-fidelity, realistic VFX assets that meet the visual targets set by the art director and production team.
  • Profile and optimize particle systems, shaders, and post-process effects to hit performance budgets across target platforms.
  • Work alongside design, art, and technical teams to develop VFX that visually support specific game features and mechanics.
  • Translate artistic and design briefs into polished in-engine effects that serve the player experience and the project’s visual language.

What You Bring

  • Working knowledge of particle systems and a general understanding of shader construction and behavior.
  • Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5 in an academic or production context.
  • Proficiency with Blender for asset creation and integration into a real-time VFX pipeline.
  • Knowledge of Houdini and Substance Designer is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Eligibility to work full-time in Canada and Quebec at the time of application, with availability for the full four-month term starting September 2026.

Why This Role

Behaviour Interactive is an independent studio of over 1,200 people with a track record that includes work-for-hire projects for Disney, Sony, and Nintendo alongside original IP development, giving interns exposure to both sides of the games industry. This VFX Artist Intern role includes a $250 BEHappy expense reimbursement, free daily meals at the Montreal office, a flexible work policy, and a genuine path to a full-time offer at the end of the internship. For a student looking to build real animation studio and game VFX pipeline credits, this is a substantive placement on a high-profile title.

Apply now for the VFX Artist Intern position at Behaviour Interactive and bring your particle systems and Unreal Engine 5 skills into a real production environment this fall.
