Job Position(s): videographer
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $60/hr

Mercor is hiring a videographer on a remote contract basis, with applicants based in Toronto, ON welcome to apply. This role sits outside traditional episodic television or feature film production and instead feeds directly into AI research workflows, where the videographer shoots and assembles multi-element visual compositions used as training data for leading AI labs. It suits a working shooter who moves quickly, delivers clean results, and does not need a full crew to get a shot across the line.

About the Role

This is a per-task contract role, not a staff position, meaning the work operates more like a freelance content production engagement than a conventional camera department job. Each task involves capturing a set of structured input images and producing a finished composite output, both photo and video, that meets precise technical guidelines. The workflow is self-directed, so the videographer needs to be comfortable owning a shoot from setup through final delivery without supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shoot 10 input images across subjects including people, objects, and backgrounds, following provided visual guidelines for each asset.
  • Produce one finished output image and one output video that incorporate all input elements within a single frame.
  • Operate professional camera equipment at a DSLR level or equivalent, with no mobile-only capture accepted for this production work.
  • Edit all delivered assets using industry-standard post-production software such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or CapCut.
  • Manage the full shoot-to-delivery pipeline independently, hitting deadlines without requiring additional rounds of direction.
  • Maintain consistent output quality across tasks, treating each assignment as a standalone short-form content production.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional photography or videography experience across any production type.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates high-quality visual storytelling, whether from commercial, documentary, or short-form content work.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or CapCut for editing and finishing deliverables.
  • Ownership of professional camera equipment capable of meeting production-grade image standards.
  • Proven ability to self-direct on shoot days and deliver polished work under tight turnaround conditions.

Why This Role

Mercor works with some of the most well-resourced AI research labs operating today, and its investor base includes names like Peter Thiel and Jack Dorsey, which speaks to the scale of the organizations this work feeds into. Compensation is structured at $120 per completed task, with each task expected to take approximately 2 hours, making the effective rate $60 per hour, though payment is tied to task completion rather than hours logged. Successful candidates are onboarded to ongoing project work, making this a repeatable source of freelance production income.
