Animation Supervisor

About the Role

The Animation Supervisor at Scanline VFX works across the full arc of a show, from early shot development through final delivery, coordinating between animators and cross-department supervisors to keep quality and schedule aligned. Day-to-day work involves reviewing animation, troubleshooting technical and artistic problems, and maintaining the visual language of the camera across all assigned sequences. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily output of the animation department, ensuring character, creature, and object animation meets photo-real standards required for live action feature film integration.
• Work directly with animators to give shot-level feedback on acting, staging, posing, weight, timing, and on-model accuracy throughout the VFX pipeline.
• Partner with studio leadership to set quality benchmarks and maintain them across the full production run of each project.
• Liaise with cross-department supervisors to surface and resolve technical and artistic blockers before they affect production schedules.
• Manage camera animation work including shot layout, staging, and blocking with a strong understanding of framing, lenses, continuity, and camera movement as it relates to live action photography.
• Debug animation implementation issues and follow through with the team to confirm fixes are properly integrated into the VFX pipeline.

What You Bring

• A minimum of eight years of VFX production experience with a focus on live action feature film, including time in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
• Expert-level knowledge of Maya, with working familiarity of Nuke and 3ds Max considered a strong asset.
• A track record of mentoring and training animators within a large studio team structure.
• Solid camera animation credits including shot layout and staging work, ideally with on-set or film camera experience informing your approach.
• Knowledge of human and animal anatomy, with life drawing experience preferred.
