Job Position(s): Videographer - Global News
Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Corus Entertainment is hiring a full-time Videographer for Global News in Durham, ON. This role sits within the broadcast journalism division, producing original news packages for Global Durham’s on-air newscasts and globalnews.ca on a daily deadline cycle. It suits a working journalist who shoots, writes, and edits their own material and is comfortable owning a story from pitch to publish.

About the Role

The Videographer reports to the News Director and operates as a one-person-band across the Durham region, generating content for both broadcast television and digital news platforms. A typical day involves scanning for story leads, going out to shoot, writing copy, cutting the piece, and filing before deadline, sometimes more than once. Evenings and weekends are part of the rotation, and breaking news coverage is a regular part of the workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch, shoot, write, produce, and edit original news stories for broadcast and online publication, meeting multiple daily deadlines without supervision.
  • Post real-time updates to globalnews.ca as stories develop, maintaining accuracy under the pressure of a live news cycle.
  • Apply production graphics and visual storytelling techniques to elevate the editorial quality of each package beyond raw footage.
  • Build and sustain a working contact network across the Durham region to support consistent local news coverage.
  • Perform field troubleshooting on camera, audio, and transmission equipment when technical issues arise on location.
  • Contribute to editorial planning by identifying and developing original story ideas that serve the local broadcast audience.

What You Bring

  • Previous experience in broadcast journalism, with a track record of producing television news content independently.
  • Post-secondary education in Broadcast Journalism or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on camera experience and working knowledge of non-linear editing in a broadcast news workflow.
  • Strong on-deadline writing skills, with the ability to shape a story for both television and digital platforms.
  • This is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement applicable to Corus Entertainment newsroom staff.
  • A valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving abstract is required for field reporting.

Why This Role

Global News is one of Canada’s largest broadcast news operations, and this position offers real ownership of a local market with the backing of a national television network behind it. For a Videographer who wants to develop across the full range of broadcast journalism production, from field shooting to digital publishing, the Durham bureau offers that scope without layers of gatekeeping. The application deadline for this position is August 24, 2026.

Apply now for the Videographer position with Corus Entertainment and bring your broadcast journalism experience to the Global News team.
