VFX Supervisor, AI & Animation

Promise Advanced Imagination is hiring a VFX Supervisor, AI & Animation based in Los Angeles, CA. This role sits at the intersection of generative AI research and production-level visual effects, with direct responsibility for overseeing photoreal integration, character animation pipelines, and GenAI tool adoption across feature film and animation projects. It is the right fit for a senior VFX professional who has already supervised large-scale, AAA productions and wants to shape how AI gets built into the VFX pipeline from the ground up.

About the Role

The VFX Supervisor, AI & Animation works across both on-set virtual production and post-production workflow, bridging the gap between a director’s creative vision and the technical output of internal R&D teams developing proprietary GenAI tools. Day to day, this means overseeing LED volume shoots, directing compositing teams in Nuke, and collaborating with machine learning engineers to prototype and refine AI-driven asset creation and facial animation systems. The role carries final creative and technical authority over all visual effects output delivered to picture.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, prototype, and implement generative AI and machine learning methodologies into active VFX pipelines, including neural rendering and AI-assisted compositing workflows.
• Supervise photoreal integration for full animated sequences and live-action plates, with direct oversight of 4D volumetric capture and LED volume production.
• Architect hybrid workflows that connect traditional post-production VFX tools such as Nuke, Maya, and Houdini with emerging AI-driven asset generation systems.
• Partner with R&D teams to evaluate and integrate new tools within Unreal Engine or comparable real-time platforms for use in active feature film production.
• Lead talent selection and provide creative and technical direction for supervisors and vendors working across AAA film and animation projects.
• Mentor VFX teams across both internal and external capacities, building a production culture grounded in technical problem-solving and visual craft.

What You Bring

• Ten or more years of progressive VFX experience, including a significant credit history as a VFX Supervisor on large-scale feature films or premium episodic television.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with machine learning and generative AI techniques applied directly to VFX production contexts.
• Production-level proficiency in Nuke, Maya, Houdini, and Unreal Engine.
• Working knowledge of facial animation AI integration alongside traditional character animation pipelines.
• Strong command of color science, cinematic camera systems, and lighting as they relate to VFX supervision on set and in post.
