Untold Studios is hiring a VFX Lead Artist based in Los Angeles to head up visual effects work across its production slate. This role sits at the center of the VFX pipeline, carrying a team of artists from initial pitch through final delivery on commercial and content projects. It suits an experienced VFX supervisor or senior artist who is equally at home in a client meeting as they are solving technical problems on the floor.

About the Role

The VFX Lead Artist at Untold Studios owns the full arc of each project, working directly with producers, coordinators, directors, and clients to keep creative output and schedules aligned. Day to day, this means managing bids and methodologies in pre-production, leading the artist team through execution, and providing on-set supervision when the shoot demands it. The studio works across commercial production and content creation, so the breadth of work is real and the technical bar is high.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all stages of the VFX pipeline from bidding and methodology development through to final delivery, owning the schedule and budget alongside the producing team.
  • Lead and mentor a team of VFX artists across multiple concurrent projects, setting creative direction and maintaining technical standards throughout.
  • Attend on-set shoots to advise the director, oversee VFX-specific elements, and capture all reference data and tracking information required for post-production.
  • Serve as the primary client contact across each project, interpreting feedback clearly and translating it into actionable direction for the artist team.
  • Apply current and emerging technologies to production workflows, keeping the studio’s output at the forefront of the visual effects industry.
  • Drive recruitment for the VFX department by sourcing candidates, reviewing reels and credits, and conducting interviews to build out the artist roster.

What You Bring

  • Substantial credits as a VFX artist or supervisor across commercial production, episodic television, or related content formats.
  • Deep working knowledge of industry-standard VFX software across compositing, 3D, and related toolsets used in a professional post-production environment.
  • Proven experience managing artist teams of varying sizes through the full production lifecycle.
  • Strong client-facing skills built through direct collaboration with directors and agency or brand clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess project scope, build accurate bids, and hold a production to its timeline.

Why This Role

Untold Studios is a studio with a clear point of view on culture, keeping artist development and creative quality as the actual measure of how the company operates. The VFX Lead Artist role comes with a structured personal progression plan and genuine investment in long-term growth within the team. The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $180,000.
