Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Ubisoft is hiring a Team Lead VFX (F/M/NB) for Beyond Good & Evil 2, based at their studio in Montpellier, Occitanie, France. This role sits inside the Art department and owns the production structure for all visual effects output on one of the most anticipated AAA titles in development. It suits a senior VFX professional who is equally comfortable reviewing particle simulations and running a production meeting.

About the Role

The VFX pipeline on Beyond Good & Evil 2 is complex and evolving, and this person is responsible for keeping it moving with clarity and consistency. Working day-to-day alongside an Associate Producer, an Associate Lead Artist, and a Technical Director, the Team Lead VFX drives prioritization, manages deliverables, and keeps the FX team organized across a dense production schedule. The role covers everything from internal asset tracking to outsourcing coordination with external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the FX team on a daily basis, managing individual performance reviews and supporting each artist’s professional development within the VFX pipeline.
  • Organize production priorities alongside the Associate Producer, ensuring VFX assets are delivered on schedule and meet the artistic bar set by the Art Director.
  • Identify and address pipeline inefficiencies in collaboration with the Technical Director, contributing to technical improvements that benefit the full team.
  • Serve as the internal representative for the FX department across project-wide production decisions, acting as a point of contact between disciplines.
  • Oversee outsourcing workflows, including briefing external studios, reviewing returned assets, and managing the relationship through delivery.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level FX artists, building team process consistency and raising the overall quality standard of real-time visual effects output.

What You Bring

  • Several years of production experience in real-time VFX, with credits on at least one shipped AAA game or comparable large-scale production.
  • Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard VFX tools used in game development pipelines, including particle systems and real-time simulation software.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring a team of artists in a structured production environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with a track record of managing competing priorities across a multi-discipline VFX pipeline.
  • An artistic eye capable of evaluating VFX quality against an art direction brief and communicating notes clearly to a team.

Why This Role

Ubisoft Montpellier is the studio behind the original Beyond Good & Evil, and this sequel has been in active development with a team building something genuinely ambitious in scope. The Team Lead VFX position offers direct influence over both the artistic output and the team structure of a flagship title at a studio with a long track record in authoring original IP. For a senior FX artist looking to step fully into leadership, the production scale here is substantial.
