Supervisor VFX

MSG Entertainment Holdings, LLC is hiring a Supervisor VFX to join the Sphere Studios team in Burbank, CA. This role leads the visual effects process from preproduction through final delivery for immersive large-format content produced for MSG Sphere, the largest LED screen format ever built. It suits a working VFX professional with deep experience in high-end VFX pipeline oversight who is equally comfortable as a creative lead and as a supporting presence when outside directors are at the helm.

About the Role

Sphere Studios functions as the in-house content delivery team for MSG Sphere, producing high frame rate, high resolution, spherical content at a scale that sits outside standard broadcast or theatrical post-production workflow. Day to day, the Supervisor VFX moves between studio-based creative oversight and on-set supervision, including domestic and international travel, interfacing with directors, producers, executives, and artists across every stage of production. The format requires working knowledge of 360×60 and 180×60 spherical production, which is a distinct technical discipline from traditional feature film production or episodic television.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full VFX pipeline from preproduction through delivery in close coordination with the VFX Producer, ensuring all work meets the director’s vision and stays on schedule and on budget.
• Serve as on-set VFX Supervisor when required, capturing camera data, lens information, set measurements, HDRI, chrome balls, and color charts to support post-production workflow.
• Break down visual effects sequences, contribute to budgeting and scheduling, and flag anything on set that could affect VFX, editorial, color, or tracking downstream.
• Translate creative notes clearly for mixed audiences, including executives and colleagues without film production backgrounds.
• Mentor junior artists and department leads, helping them meet daily deliverables and longer-term production goals.
• Maintain pipeline efficiency across post, post-production technology, and VFX teams, ensuring Sphere’s technical specs and methodologies are followed throughout.

What You Bring

• 10 or more years working as a VFX Supervisor on high-end production.
• Hands-on knowledge of Nuke and Maya, with Unreal Engine, Notch, TouchDesigner, Baselight, and DaVinci Resolve considered a strong plus.
• Direct experience with immersive media, spherical production, or large-format content creation.
• Experience with previsualization, photogrammetry, and virtual production workflows.
• Full working knowledge of the filmmaking process across preproduction, live action photography, and post-production.
