Rodeo FX in Montreal is building a pipeline of candidates for a Junior Groom Artist (Blender) position as part of a confidential project. This role sits within the Character department and focuses on producing hair and fur descriptions for production assets, working from concept and design references to deliver groomed characters, creatures, and props through the VFX pipeline. About the Role

This is an open application for a position that Rodeo FX anticipates opening in the coming weeks on a confidential production. The Junior Groom Artist works under the Groom Supervisor and Character Supervisor, contributing groomed assets from initial setup through to final delivery, including hair shading depending on production needs. Day-to-day work involves interpreting artistic direction, maintaining technical compliance with the studio pipeline, and coordinating closely with Modeling, Rigging, and Surfacing departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Create hair and fur effects for animated characters, creatures, and props using Blender, following the established artistic direction for the project.
• Groom, calibrate, and shade hair and fur assets to match concept and design references supplied by the Art department.
• Ensure all asset deliveries meet the technical requirements of the production pipeline and internal workflow standards.
• Resolve creative and technical grooming problems independently, escalating to the Groom Lead or Supervisor when production timelines require it.
• Deliver assets on schedule within the quotas set by Production coordinators, and execute revisions requested by the Supervisor or Director.
• Contribute to the development of grooming tools used within the department and communicate proactively when information is needed to progress work.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated experience in groom artistry within a VFX studio or animation studio production environment.
• Proficiency in Blender as a primary grooming tool, with an understanding of hair simulation and fur shading workflows.
• Familiarity with cross-department collaboration in a post-production workflow, specifically with Modeling, Rigging, and Surfacing pipelines.
• Ability to manage your own workload, prepare work for Supervisor review, and present assets clearly to clients.
• Experience working to production deadlines on feature film production or episodic television projects is an asset.
