Job Position(s): Junior Video Editor & Shooter
Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

ProductionBase is hiring a Junior Video Editor and Shooter based in London, Ontario, Canada. This role sits within the content production team, focused on shooting and editing original video formats built specifically for YouTube, handling everything from camera operation through to final delivery. It suits an early-career editor who has developed a genuine instinct for digital video storytelling and understands how post-production workflow shapes audience retention.

About the Role

The Junior Video Editor and Shooter works inside a small content team producing original series and standalone videos for a YouTube-first audience, which means the same person often picks up the camera and then takes the footage through the full edit. A typical day moves between shooting segments on location or in studio, assembling rough cuts, and refining pacing against thumbnail and title strategies. The role demands someone who treats the edit as its own craft, not just a technical step after the shoot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate camera on single and multi-camera shoots, managing basic exposure, framing, and audio capture without a dedicated crew.
  • Build and refine cuts across multiple video formats, applying strong editorial judgement to pacing, music, and on-screen graphics.
  • Manage project files, media organization, and version control within a shared post-production workflow to keep deliverables on schedule.
  • Colour grade footage to a consistent look across each series format using software-based tools in the edit suite.
  • Design and animate simple motion graphics and lower thirds that match each format’s visual identity.
  • Review completed edits against audience performance data and apply learnings to improve retention and watch-time on future cuts.

What You Bring

  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on editing experience, with a reel that demonstrates cuts built for digital video audiences rather than broadcast.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and at least working knowledge of After Effects for basic motion graphics work.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a camera independently, including mirrorless or DSLR systems, with an understanding of natural and artificial lighting setups.
  • Familiarity with YouTube as a platform, including how video structure and pacing connect to audience retention metrics.
  • Experience delivering finished files to platform specifications, including codec, resolution, and audio standards.

Why This Role

ProductionBase is building out a original content slate with formats designed from the ground up for YouTube, which means the person in this seat will have direct influence on how those series look and feel from the start. For a junior editor, that kind of creative ownership at an early career stage is genuinely uncommon. London, Ontario has a growing production community, and this role puts you inside a team that is producing rather than just planning.

Apply now for the Junior Video Editor and Shooter position at ProductionBase and bring a reel that shows what you can do.
