Student Photographer and Videographer

SJSU Student Union is hiring a Student Photographer and Videographer based in San Jose, California. This role sits within the Marketing and Information Services department, producing photo and video content across architectural, portrait, stock, and event production workflows for three major campus facilities. About the Role

The Student Photographer and Videographer works inside the Student Union’s graphics department, shooting and editing content that supports print campaigns, social media, and event documentation across the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. Day-to-day production workflow includes self-assigned shoots, client coordination with SJSU faculty and staff, archive management, and delivering finished assets from large format banners down to web thumbnails. This is a working production role, not an internship shadow position.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute principal photography and videography across multiple disciplines including architectural photography, portraiture, and event coverage for digital and print marketing use.
• Operate DSLR and medium format digital camera systems with an understanding of strobe, tungsten, and ambient lighting setups appropriate to each shoot environment.
• Edit photo and video footage using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and After Effects to deliver polished final products consistent with SJSU Student Union branding standards.
• Coordinate directly with department managers, external clients, and SJSU faculty to schedule shoots, manage staging logistics, and confirm cosmetic quality of all deliverables.
• Maintain and curate the graphics department photo archive, managing file processing, quality review, and asset organization within an ongoing production workflow.
• Collaborate with the marketing team to storyboard and execute social media campaigns, carrying projects from the conceptual design phase through to completed final product.

What You Bring

• Current matriculated enrollment at SJSU with a minimum of half-time status, defined as 6.0 to 8.0 units per semester for undergraduate students.
• A working portfolio demonstrating range across photography and video content production disciplines.
• Hands-on knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
• Preferred enrollment as an upper-division student in the SJSU Art Department or Journalism and Mass Communications Department, with a focus in photography or photojournalism.
• Demonstrated ability to self-assign tasks, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet production deadlines without close supervision.
