Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $27/hr

Grand Canyon University is hiring a Standardized Patient, also known as a medical actor, for its College of Nursing and Health Care Professions in Miramar, FL. In this role, you perform scripted patient scenarios for nursing students, portraying clinical histories, physical findings, and emotional responses with the consistency and accuracy that simulation-based medical training demands. This role suits performers or healthcare-adjacent professionals who are comfortable with repeated performance work, structured feedback delivery, and the discipline of character continuity across multiple sessions.

About the Role

The Standardized Patient role sits within Grand Canyon University’s ABSN program simulation curriculum, where medical actors are the primary instructional tool for teaching clinical communication and patient interaction. On any given shift, you will run back-to-back simulation scenarios with nursing students, portraying assigned patient cases and then stepping out of character to deliver structured verbal and written feedback. This is part-time work, scheduled Monday through Friday between 7:30am and 4:30pm, running approximately 5 to 15 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portray assigned patient scenarios with consistent accuracy across history of present illness, physical findings, and behavioral affect as written in the case materials.
  • Deliver face-to-face verbal feedback to nursing students immediately following simulation encounters, focusing on interpersonal and clinical communication skills.
  • Complete written performance evaluations for each student encounter and submit them to supervising faculty.
  • Incorporate ongoing direction from faculty into your case portrayal, treating each session as a rehearsed and repeatable performance.
  • Pass all required patient competency assessments before being deployed in live simulation scenarios, with training provided by the program.
  • Maintain scheduling reliability and respond to communications promptly, as simulation lab schedules are built around confirmed actor availability.

What You Bring

  • Background in performance, medical simulation, standardized patient work, or healthcare settings where patient communication was a core function.
  • Ability to hold a character portrayal with precision across repeated back-to-back simulation sessions without variation.
  • Comfort giving critical feedback directly to students in a structured, constructive format.
  • Reliable transportation to the Miramar facility at 2901 SW 149th Ave.
  • High school diploma required.

Why This Role

Grand Canyon University’s Miramar campus is an active simulation training environment where medical actors directly shape how the next generation of nurses learns to communicate with patients. The pay rate is $27 per hour, and the part-time schedule makes this a realistic fit alongside other performance or healthcare work. Grand Canyon University has a defined simulation curriculum, which means your work as a Standardized Patient has clear structure and consistent production-style repeatability.
