Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

KREXTV in Grand Junction, CO is hiring a Production Assistant to join their broadcast television team. This role sits within the studio production department, supporting both live broadcasts and recorded segments through hands-on camera operation and broadcast graphics work. It’s a solid entry point for someone looking to build real floor experience in local television production.

About the Role

The Production Assistant works directly alongside directors and crew on live broadcast television and recorded newscast segments, handling camera operation from both studio and remote setups. A typical day moves between composing shots for live air, building graphics for newscasts, and maintaining the camera package to keep equipment ready for broadcast. This is a crew-level role in a working television station, not a runner position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate studio and remote cameras during live broadcast television productions, adjusting focus, exposure, and framing to meet director specifications in real time.
  • Compose and frame camera shots using working knowledge of lenses, lighting conditions, and camera settings to achieve the director’s intended look.
  • Confer with directors and crew ahead of sequences to align on camera movements, desired effects, and lighting requirements before going to air.
  • Produce and create graphics packages for newscast segments, turning around broadcast-ready assets within production deadlines.
  • Set up, test, clean, and maintain camera equipment, including minor repairs to keep the gear in broadcast-ready condition.
  • Support remote broadcast setups, which includes working outdoors and adapting to variable lighting conditions outside the controlled studio environment.

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience with broadcast camera systems in a live television or studio production environment.
  • Familiarity with broadcast graphics workflows and the ability to produce on-air graphics under deadline pressure.
  • Physical capability to lift and operate equipment up to 50 pounds and work from a 12-foot ladder during setup.
  • Strong communication skills for real-time coordination with directors and production crew during live broadcasts.
  • Ability to manage multiple production tasks simultaneously across live and recorded broadcast formats.

Why This Role

KREXTV offers a genuine career path within local broadcast television, with full medical, dental, and vision benefits, a retirement savings plan with company match, and additional coverage including life insurance, disability, and an employee assistance program. The annual salary range starts at $33,240.00, commensurate with experience. For someone building credits in broadcast television production, working across live studio production and remote setups at an established station gives you the kind of varied floor time that moves a career forward.

Apply now for the Production Assistant role at KREXTV and bring your camera and broadcast production skills to a working television station in Grand Junction.
