Job Position(s): Senior VFX and Lighting Artist
Project Type: VFX Production
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Fenris Creations is hiring a Senior VFX and Lighting Artist to join their team in London, working on EVE: Vanguard, a first-person shooter set in the EVE Universe. Sitting within the Art department, this role owns the full lighting and real-time VFX pipeline, from combat space readability and weapon feedback through to environment atmosphere and post-processing. It suits a senior artist with a strong technical foundation who can hold both the creative vision and the performance budget at the same time.

About the Role

The Senior VFX and Lighting Artist works across level lighting, Niagara-based effects, and cross-discipline VFX pipeline decisions on a multiplayer shooter built in Unreal Engine 5. Day to day, that means profiling GPU costs, iterating on Lumen setups, shipping weapon and impact effects, and sitting in reviews where your feedback shapes what reaches the player. This is a permanent, full-time position with real ownership over a critical layer of the game’s visual identity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build production-ready lighting for FPS levels using Lumen, reflections, fog, exposure, and post-processing in Unreal Engine 5, ensuring enemy visibility and navigation clarity are always supported.
  • Create real-time VFX in Niagara covering weapon effects, explosions, smoke, fire, sparks, and environmental and gameplay feedback systems.
  • Profile and resolve performance issues across GPU cost, shadow rendering, translucency, particle budgets, and volumetrics to meet target hardware specifications.
  • Partner with Environment Art on material response, emissive lighting integration, and scene composition to ensure lighting reads correctly across all areas.
  • Define reusable lighting and VFX setups, write guidelines, and establish best practices that raise the bar across the whole Art department.
  • Mentor other artists in the team, contribute to polish and performance passes, and act as a cross-discipline stakeholder in decisions affecting visual direction and player experience.

What You Bring

  • Senior-level credits as a Lighting Artist, VFX Artist, or Technical Artist in shipped game development, ideally on FPS or action titles.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5, including Lumen, post-processing, reflections, and exposure systems.
  • Strong real-time VFX production experience in Niagara, with a portfolio demonstrating atmosphere, combat feedback, and technical problem-solving.
  • Comfort with profiling tools and a working understanding of shader complexity, overdraw, particle budgets, and scalability.
  • Colour grading experience in DaVinci Resolve and UE5 is desirable, as is background on multiplayer or live-service projects.

Why This Role

Fenris Creations is building EVE: Vanguard as part of the broader EVE Universe, a project with an established player base and genuine ambition at the intersection of multiplayer shooter design and science fiction world-building. For a Senior VFX and Lighting Artist who wants real influence over a game’s visual pipeline rather than executing someone else’s brief, the scope here is substantial. Fenris Creations describes this as a permanent role with the challenge of shaping a pioneering project alongside a close-knit team in London.

Apply now for the Senior VFX and Lighting Artist role at Fenris Creations and bring your lighting and VFX pipeline experience to one of the more interesting shooter projects currently in production.
