Rodeo FX is hiring multiple Senior Lookdev Artists to join their Montreal, Canada studio. This role sits at the intersection of texturing and lighting in the VFX pipeline, responsible for building and refining the complete visual surface of 3D assets through to lighting-ready delivery. It suits an artist with a strong command of physically based shading who can work fluently across both the technical and creative sides of asset finishing.

About the Role

Senior Lookdev Artists at Rodeo FX work within a department that bridges texturing, lighting, and compositing, ensuring assets hold up visually across the full post-production workflow. Day to day, this means developing shaders, producing validation renders including turntables and AOV passes, and working directly with supervision to get assets through dailies. The role carries real ownership over the look of assets as they move downstream into lighting and compositing.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop complete asset looks by combining textures, shaders, and validation lighting setups tailored to individual production requirements.
• Produce turntables, AOV passes, and benchmark renders to support dailies reviews and supervision sign-off.
• Design physically plausible, production-optimized shaders that integrate cleanly into the existing VFX pipeline.
• Create, adapt, or troubleshoot textures covering UVs, tiling, displacement, and color space to meet lookdev performance standards.
• Partner directly with lighting and compositing departments to ensure surface properties and shading hold consistency through to final render.
• Contribute to improving shared workflows between texturing and lookdev, including tools, templates, and team-facing technical documentation.

What You Bring

• Several years of professional lookdev or texturing experience in a feature film or episodic television VFX environment.
• Proficiency in industry-standard lookdev and rendering software, with a working knowledge of Arnold, V-Ray, or similar production renderers.
• Hands-on experience with Mari, Substance Painter, or equivalent tools for texture creation using photographic references, scans, or procedural approaches.
• A demonstrated eye for micro-detail, surface variation, and material realism backed by a strong portfolio of delivered VFX assets.
• The ability to read and respond to artistic feedback in dailies and integrate notes efficiently within production deadlines.
