This role sits within the character department and is responsible for building and delivering production-ready hair groom assets for 3D animated characters, creatures, and props. About the Role

The Senior Groom Artist (Blender) works under the Groom Lead/Supervisor and Character Supervisor, translating concept art and model sheets into technically compliant hair descriptions that hold up through the full animation pipeline. Day-to-day work involves building groom setups in Blender, flagging and resolving inter-department technical conflicts, and preparing assets for director review. This is an expression of interest posting, with Mikros Animation anticipating active openings in the coming weeks.

Key Responsibilities

• Create hair and fur effects on 3D animated characters, animals, and props using Blender, working directly from the project’s established artistic direction.
• Ensure all delivered groom assets meet the technical specifications of the feature film production pipeline, including naming conventions, file structure, and handoff requirements.
• Collaborate with modeling, rigging, and surfacing departments to resolve cross-department technical dependencies at each stage of asset development.
• Contribute to the development and testing of groom tools used within the department, providing practical feedback grounded in production experience.
• Organize personal workload to meet deadlines and production quotas set by the production coordinator, and prepare presentation materials for supervisor and director approval rounds.
• Implement corrections from the Supervisor and Director efficiently, maintaining asset version control and clear communication throughout the review process.

What You Bring

• Demonstrable senior-level experience as a groom artist on animated feature film production or high-end episodic animation.
• Proficiency in Blender as a primary groom tool, with a working understanding of how groom data is exported and consumed downstream in the VFX pipeline.
• Experience shading hair assets is an asset, as some productions require the groom artist to handle both grooming and lookdev for hair.
• A portfolio or reel showing a range of hair types across characters and creatures, from stylized animation to complex multi-layer fur builds.
• Comfort working within a department that is actively developing its tools, with some capacity to test and give feedback on pipeline changes mid-production.
