Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Rodeo FX is hiring a Rodeo FX Compositing Artist to join their team in Montreal. This role sits within the VFX pipeline, where the artist is responsible for integrating computer-generated elements with live-action plates across high-end episodic television and feature film production. It suits a compositor with real credits who wants to work at scale on projects that actually get noticed.

About the Role

Rodeo FX is an independent, Oscar-winning visual effects company with close to 800 artists, and this position places you inside a compositing department that has contributed to productions including Stranger Things season 4, The Witcher season 2, and Foundation season 1. Day-to-day work involves pulling mattes, integrating CGI renders, and refining shots through the post-production workflow to meet the creative and technical standards set by production. The studio runs a hybrid schedule requiring at least three days per week on-site at the Montreal studio, with flexibility built around the remaining days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Composite multi-pass CGI renders with live-action plates using node-based compositing tools, maintaining continuity across shot sequences.
  • Perform colour grading and matching to ensure visual consistency between VFX shots and editorial cuts delivered by production.
  • Work directly with VFX supervisors to interpret client briefs and apply feedback efficiently within the production timeline.
  • Execute rotoscoping, matte painting integration, and green screen keying to a broadcast and theatrical delivery standard.
  • Manage and version shots within the studio’s pipeline, maintaining organised file structures and accurate naming conventions throughout post.
  • Contribute to internal reviews by presenting work-in-progress composites and articulating technical and creative choices to leads.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrable compositing credits on episodic television or feature film production at a recognised VFX studio.
  • Proficiency in Nuke, with a working knowledge of node-based compositing workflows used in high-volume VFX pipelines.
  • Experience with colour science fundamentals, including linear light workflows and LUT management.
  • Familiarity with render pass structures from 3D software such as Maya or Houdini is a genuine asset.
  • Strong communication skills suited to a collaborative studio environment where shots move quickly between departments.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX holds three Emmy nominations and an Academy Award, which means the work coming through the compositing department carries real weight in the industry. The studio has a consistent record of placing artists on major episodic television productions, which translates to meaningful credits and steady development of craft. Montreal is a well-established animation and VFX hub, and this role puts you inside one of its most recognised studios.

If your compositing reel is built on serious production work and you want your next role to match that level, apply now for the Rodeo FX Compositing Artist position at Rodeo FX.
