Job Position(s): Freelance Video Editor (Casual)
Project Type: Documentary
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

ProductionBase is hiring a Freelance Video Editor on a casual basis out of London, Ontario, Canada. This role sits firmly in post-production, cutting across a range of video formats from time-sensitive news content to longer-form polished pieces that require more deliberate editorial shaping. It suits an editor who is comfortable switching contexts quickly and has a real feel for pacing across different output types.

About the Role

You will be working within a post-production workflow that handles both deadline-driven short-form content and more considered long-form projects, meaning your editorial instincts need to be as flexible as your schedule. On any given day you might be turning around a breaking news cut in the morning and refining a branded or documentary sequence by the afternoon. The casual structure means availability and adaptability are just as important as the edit itself.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit breaking news segments to broadcast-ready standards under tight turnaround deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Cut long-form and polished video content, shaping narrative structure, pacing, and tone from rough assembly through to picture lock.
  • Manage project organization within the post-production pipeline, maintaining clean bin structures, labelled sequences, and version control across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Collaborate directly with producers and directors to incorporate notes while preserving editorial integrity across revisions.
  • Source and integrate archival footage, music, and sound design elements in compliance with licensing requirements.
  • Export and deliver finished files to platform-specific technical specifications, including codec, resolution, and caption requirements.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrable experience editing across both news and long-form video production formats.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro or Avid Media Composer.
  • A working knowledge of colour correction tools and audio mixing at the editorial level.
  • Credits across a range of content types, whether broadcast, digital, documentary, or branded video production.
  • Ability to work independently on a casual or project-by-project basis without requiring a structured onboarding process.

Why This Role

ProductionBase connects working professionals with production opportunities across a wide spectrum of content, giving a Freelance Video Editor genuine variety rather than repetitive work in a single format. The casual arrangement suits editors who are already freelancing and want a reliable source of project flow alongside their existing commitments. London, Ontario has a growing production community, and this role offers real footing within it.
