ZEALOT is hiring a Freelance Assistant Editor to join their post-production team in New York, NY. This role sits inside ZEALOT’s finishing and editorial department, supporting editors who cut trailers, TV spots, and digital campaigns for major film and television releases. It’s a solid fit for a mid-level post professional who knows their way around a shared storage environment and wants to sharpen their editorial instincts working on high-profile entertainment marketing content.

About the Role

ZEALOT operates across offices in New York and Los Angeles, with post-production work shared between both locations and editorial teams collaborating across the two. As a Freelance Assistant Editor, your day centers on keeping projects organized and editors unblocked, from ingesting and transcoding media to managing assets across editorial, motion graphics, and finishing. The hours run Monday through Friday, 12pm to 9pm, with paid overtime and the possibility of staggered shift schedules depending on client needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and organize offline projects on Facilis shared storage, maintaining clean media structures that editors can rely on from first assembly through picture lock.
  • Transcode and relink media across UHD and HD formats, resizing aspect ratios and preparing deliverables to spec for each platform or client requirement.
  • Send and receive files through Aspera, Frame.io, WireDrive, Box, and Pix, managing the transfer workflow between editorial and outside vendors or clients.
  • Generate export lists including EDLs, AAFs, and XMLs, and maintain accurate asset logs and databases across active projects.
  • Assemble dailies and break down media for editors, with overcut work as projects require it.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they come up in the post-production workflow, working directly with editors to resolve problems without delays to the cut.

What You Bring

  • At least two years of experience in an Assistant Editor role inside a post-production environment, preferably in entertainment marketing or episodic television finishing.
  • Hands-on experience with Facilis shared storage, Box, Aspera, and media sharing platforms including Frame.io and Pix.
  • Strong working knowledge of UHD and HD formats, transcoding pipelines, and QC standards.
  • Proficiency with MacOS and the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-office editorial team.
  • Solid organizational and time management habits, with the ability to troubleshoot on the fly when the post-production workflow demands it.

Why This Role

ZEALOT has a long track record cutting trailers and campaigns for some of the most widely seen film and television releases, which means the material moving through this post-production pipeline is genuinely high profile. The pay range for this Freelance Assistant Editor position is $28 to $32 per hour, with paid overtime on a regular basis. This is an in-person role requiring four days per week on-site in New York, and it offers real room to grow editorially as you build experience with the team.
