Job Type
Disney is hiring a Disney & Pixar Games Art Intern (Creative Development) for Spring 2027, based onsite in Glendale, CA. This role sits inside Disney’s Creative Development team, where the work is hands-on visual development for a diverse portfolio of mobile, console, and PC games built around Disney and Pixar IP. It suits an art student or early-career illustrator with genuine fluency in Disney’s visual language and a real background in game art, character design, or 2D animation.
About the Role
The Creative Development team acts as the internal creative authority overseeing external game developers building Disney and Pixar titles across gaming platforms. As the Disney & Pixar Games Art Intern (Creative Development), you work directly alongside a senior artist to review visual submissions from third-party studios and provide structured feedback that keeps each game on-brand and visually coherent. Day to day, that means playing development builds, marking up art assets, and contributing concept and design support through draw-overs, paint-overs, and written notes rooted in actual franchise guidelines. This internship runs full-time from mid-January through June 4, 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Review art asset submissions from external game development partners and generate qualitative feedback grounded in Disney and Pixar brand standards.
- Produce draw-overs and paint-overs to communicate visual direction clearly across assigned projects throughout the full product lifecycle, from ideation through live operations.
- Research Disney and Pixar IP guidelines to ensure game art direction is executed authentically and in alignment with each franchise’s established visual identity.
- Problem-solve art direction and brand consistency challenges in coordination with internal project leads working across multiple game genres.
- Support the art team on internal projects including team branding materials, presentation deck graphics, and special creative executions outside of game visual development.
- Keep your direct manager updated on assignment progress as they oversee the full arc of each project from creative brief to release.
What You Bring
- A portfolio demonstrating 2D illustration skills, including the ability to draw characters and environments in a Disney-adjacent style, required for application consideration.
- Senior-year standing or above, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Art, Graphic Design, Game Design, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, with experience in UI design, logo design, or presentation graphics considered a strong advantage.
- Genuine familiarity with mobile, console, and PC game platforms and an active awareness of current releases across multiple genres.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills suited to delivering structured creative feedback to external development partners.
Why This Role
Disney’s internal game development oversight team works directly with some of the most recognized IP in the animation studio and feature film space, giving interns real exposure to how major franchises translate into interactive products at a professional level. The work is substantive: you are giving notes that actually shape shipped games, not filing assets in a pipeline. For anyone targeting a career in game art direction, visual development, or entertainment IP licensing, this is a meaningful credit to carry.
