About the Role

The Digital Editor, Policy and Evidence works inside BBC Media Action’s communications and knowledge-sharing function, producing editorial content that reaches policymakers, journalists, and development sector audiences. At three days per week across a 12-month contract, the role covers the full editorial workflow, from commissioning contributors and managing a publishing calendar to analysing performance data and refining content strategy. A typical week involves coordinating with internal teams to identify story angles, editing incoming copy to house style, and reviewing analytics to inform what gets commissioned next.

Key Responsibilities

• Commission and edit digital editorial content for the Policy and Evidence section, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and appropriate tone for a policy-literate readership.
• Own the editorial planning process, maintaining a forward calendar that balances reactive news hooks with longer-lead content development.
• Coordinate contributors and staff writers, managing deadlines and providing editorial feedback that improves both individual pieces and overall output quality.
• Monitor digital content performance using analytics platforms, producing regular assessments that feed back into commissioning decisions and editorial strategy.
• Stay current with developments in digital publishing formats, adapting content approaches to reflect how target audiences are consuming editorial online.
• Shape the editorial identity of the Policy and Evidence space, ensuring consistency of voice across all published material.

What You Bring

• Proven experience editing digital editorial content, ideally within a broadcast, media, or international development organisation.
• Hands-on experience with content management systems and digital analytics tools used in professional publishing workflows.
• A track record of commissioning writers and managing an editorial pipeline from brief to publication.
• Familiarity with SEO principles as applied to editorial content strategy and discoverability.
• Ability to work independently at part-time capacity while keeping editorial output consistent and on schedule.
