FOX News Media is hiring a Broadcast Production Engineer for its Washington, D.C. bureau, one of the most operationally demanding news facilities in the country. This role sits inside the Broadcast and Media Technology group, where the work centers on keeping live broadcast production systems on-air and functioning across a 24/7 news environment. It suits a working broadcast engineer with real control room experience and a solid foundation in both traditional SDI infrastructure and modern IP-based signal workflows.
About the Role
The Production Engineering team in D.C. supports the full broadcast production chain for live television, from studio cameras and video walls to intercom, audio suites, and control room automation. Day-to-day, this person is the technical backbone for live news production, handling everything from routine maintenance to real-time troubleshooting at high-profile locations including the White House and Capitol Hill. The role connects directly with engineering teams in New York and with network operations, making cross-functional communication a practical daily requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support live broadcast production infrastructure including routers, KVM systems, intercom, and audio suites within a continuous live television environment.
- Oversee studio operations covering Planar video walls, Vinten robotic cameras, image processing systems, and VR set technologies.
- Supervise live control room production systems, including Ross Overdrive production control automation and NRCS workflow integration.
- Provide on-site technical support at remote locations including federal press facilities, managing equipment and signal integrity under broadcast deadlines.
- Perform software and hardware maintenance on subsystems, including updates, modifications, and replacements across both legacy pathbay environments and 2110 IP audio/video signal routing infrastructure.
- Build and maintain documentation standards for system deployment, operations benchmarks, and support procedures across the bureau.
What You Bring
- Five or more years of hands-on experience in broadcast production engineering within live television environments.
- Working knowledge of SMPTE broadcast standards, Calrec audio systems, and RTS communication platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot both SDI and SMPTE 2110 IP signal routing environments under live production conditions.
- Experience with enterprise Media Asset Management systems such as Dalet, and file-based post-production workflows.
- Proficiency in MS Windows server and workstation platforms, with a solid grasp of IT networking topology and best practices.
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Why This Role
FOX News Media reaches 200 million people monthly and has held the top position in cable news for 20 consecutive years, which means the infrastructure this engineer supports is carrying one of the highest-volume live television operations in the United States. The D.C. bureau specifically handles coverage that sits at the center of national news, giving a broadcast engineer direct exposure to complex, high-stakes live production at a scale few facilities can match. FOX News Media is an equal opportunity employer.
