The team operates as a specialised practical effects workshop, producing sculptural builds, animatronics, prosthetics, and fabricated creature work for screen. About the Role

The Creatures FX workshop at Pinewood sits within the broader special effects and physical production pipeline, delivering practical creature work that feeds directly into principal photography. Artists registered in the database are considered for freelance contracts as specific projects are greenlit and crewed up. A typical engagement involves working within the workshop through pre-production builds and into on-set support, depending on the project schedule and the individual’s discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Executing creature sculpts, maquettes, or finished builds to approved design specifications within production deadlines.
• Fabricating creature suits, skins, or structural armatures using materials appropriate to the specific build and on-screen requirements.
• Operating or maintaining animatronic rigs, servo mechanisms, or cable-operated puppet systems during workshop and on-set phases.
• Applying prosthetic pieces or creature makeups on set, working within the continuity requirements of the production.
• Painting and finishing creature builds to match approved colour keys, working from reference supplied by the production designer or director.
• Metalworking, moulding, or casting components as required by the build schedule across feature film production or episodic television projects.

What You Bring

• A demonstrable professional background in at least one core discipline: sculpting, animatronics, prosthetics, fabrication, painting, or metalworking.
• A portfolio that shows finished screen-ready work, ideally with credits from feature film production or high end TV.
• Eligibility to work in the UK, which is a firm requirement for all positions.
• Experience working within a practical effects or creature effects workshop environment, with an understanding of production timelines.
• A current CV and showreel or image portfolio submitted together at the point of registration.
