Character Modeller ( DNEG ANIMATION ) Hybrid Remote,
- Full Time
- London, United Kingdom
DNEG
DNEG is hiring a Character Modeller for its Animation division, based out of London, United Kingdom. This role sits within the Modelling department and is responsible for building production-ready CG character assets, from initial sculpt through to handoff for rigging and look development. It suits an experienced character artist with feature film animation credits who can shift comfortably between stylised and realistic pipelines.
About the Role
The Character Modeller works inside DNEG Animation’s feature film production pipeline, contributing to a slate that has included titles such as The Garfield Movie, Entergalactic, and Nimona. Day to day, this means interpreting 2D character designs, building and refining 3D geometry to meet both artistic and technical specs, and attending dailies to receive notes from the Modelling Lead or Supervisor. The position is hybrid remote, with the expectation of regular presence at the London studio during key production phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Build CG character models from approved design reference, ensuring topology meets the requirements of the rigging and animation pipeline.
- Submit work to dailies and production reviews, addressing artistic and technical notes in a timely manner to keep assets on schedule.
- Quality check all models against DNEG’s internal protocols before handing off to downstream departments such as rigging, look development, and surfacing.
- Adapt sculpting and modelling approach to match the specific visual language of each project, which may range from graphic novel adaptations to stylised feature animation.
- Learn and operate within DNEG’s proprietary modelling workflow and pipeline tools across the duration of the production.
What You Bring
- Production credits as a Character Modeller on feature animated films across more than one artistic style.
- Proficiency in Maya and ZBrush as primary sculpting and modelling tools.
- Working knowledge of a ray-tracing or path-tracing renderer such as RenderMan or Arnold within a feature film production context.
- Solid understanding of human anatomy and organic form, with the ability to apply that knowledge across non-human character types.
- Familiarity with Marvelous Designer for cloth and costume asset creation.
- A degree in Computer Animation or an equivalent qualifying course.
Why This Role
DNEG Animation has built a track record on high-profile animated features distributed globally, and the modelling department works at a level of craft that draws experienced artists specifically because of the variety of projects on the slate. Each production carries a distinct visual identity, which means a Character Modeller here builds a genuinely varied body of work rather than repeating the same house style. The studio’s animation pipeline is structured, well-resourced, and staffed by artists who treat character modelling as a discipline in its own right.
Apply now for the Character Modeller position at DNEG Animation and bring your production experience to one of the industry’s most active feature animation studios.
