This is a camera department role embedded within the club’s Audio Visual team, producing footage for social media and digital platforms across first team, Under-21, Under-18, and Women’s team fixtures. It suits a camera operator with a background in sports production who can work independently in a live environment while feeding into a coordinated content workflow.

About the Role

The AV team at Southampton Football Club covers the full spread of matchday content, and this operator is responsible for capturing both the game itself and the surrounding story, pre-match build-up, dressing room access, fan moments, and post-match reaction. The role operates on a casual, as-and-when basis, meaning calls align with the fixture schedule across all four team levels. A typical matchday involves briefing with the AV team, operating a Sony camcorder or equivalent, and delivering usable footage that serves specific platform briefs rather than a generic highlight reel.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a Sony camcorder or equivalent broadcast camera across live sports production matchdays for multiple Southampton Football Club squads.
• Capture editorial and storytelling content around the matchday that goes beyond game footage, covering access moments that support the club’s digital publishing output.
• Work independently on camera while maintaining awareness of the wider AV team’s shot requirements and production plan.
• Liaise directly with internal clients to understand briefs and develop a clear production plan before each fixture.
• Manage time effectively across a matchday schedule where access windows are tight and content deadlines are immediate.
• Apply a strong understanding of broadcast principles to ensure all captured footage meets technical standards for social and digital distribution.

What You Bring

• A portfolio of high quality video footage demonstrating experience in live sports production or comparable broadcast environments.
• Hands-on experience with Sony camcorders or similar professional broadcast cameras.
• A working knowledge of broadcast principles including framing, exposure, and acquisition formats used in digital content production.
• Experience handling video briefs and translating client requirements into a practical shooting plan.
• A DBS Enhanced check with Child Barred List clearance is required for this role.
• Availability to work flexible hours aligned to a fixture calendar, including evenings and weekends.
