Job Type
FOX Entertainment is hiring a Broadcast Production / Master Control Technician at FOX6 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This role sits at the intersection of live news production and master control operations, with direct responsibility for getting newscasts to air cleanly, managing commercial insertion, and keeping the transmitter compliant with FCC requirements. It’s a position built for someone who thrives in a live broadcast environment and wants hands-on time across multiple disciplines in a major market station.
About the Role
You’ll be embedded in the control room and master control workflow at a top-30 market affiliate that produces roughly 1,300 hours of local news per week across the FTS network. A typical day moves between directing live newscasts, pulling in field reporter shots, managing EAS tests, and monitoring broadcast streams, often within the same shift. The range of tasks makes this one of the more well-rounded positions available in local broadcast television production.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct live newscasts using Ross Overdrive, coordinating control room timing and on-air execution from open to close.
- Operate audio consoles and robotic cameras during live broadcasts, adjusting in real time to breaking news or segment changes.
- Bring in live shots from reporters in the field, managing TOC operations and troubleshooting signal issues under deadline.
- Execute weather cut-ins and breaking news interruptions cleanly, with accurate playlist edits and proper FCC protocol for EAS tests.
- Monitor transmitter functions and broadcast streams, inserting commercials and prepping on-air content in accordance with station schedules.
- Record and prepare content using master control systems, maintaining accuracy across all logged and scheduled broadcast elements.
What You Bring
- Minimum one year of experience in a broadcast operation, with exposure to live television production workflow.
- Hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas: newscast directing, audio operations, robotic cameras, master control, or TOC.
- Familiarity with Evertz Mediator, Ross Overdrive, iNews, BitCentral, or Chyron is a strong plus.
- High school diploma required; a college or technical degree in broadcasting or a related field is preferred.
- Availability for non-standard shifts including weekends and holidays, standard for union-represented roles in live news.
Why This Role
This is a union-represented position at one of FOX Entertainment’s owned-and-operated stations, giving you access to union protections and benefits negotiated through the applicable collective bargaining agreement. FOX6 Milwaukee carries real weight in a competitive local news market, and the breadth of control room and master control responsibilities here accelerates your resume across multiple broadcast disciplines. Compensation ranges from $16.98 to $37.58 per hour, with medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off included.
