Mikros Animation in Montreal is building its roster for a confidential feature film production and is accepting expressions of interest for a Mid Groom Artist (Blender). This role sits within the Character department, where the focus is on creating hair and fur descriptions for production assets, from character heads to full-body creature coats and props. It suits a Groom Artist who is comfortable working within a structured animation studio pipeline and delivering to both technical and artistic briefs.

About the Role

The Mid Groom Artist (Blender) works under the Groom Supervisor and Character Supervisor, contributing to asset builds for an animated feature production. Day-to-day work involves grooming, calibrating, and in some cases shading hair and fur across characters, creatures, and props, referencing approved concept art and design sheets. Mikros Animation is not actively interviewing for this position at this time, but is gathering interest ahead of an anticipated opening in the coming weeks.

Key Responsibilities

• Create hair and fur grooming for animated characters, creatures, and accessories in Blender, working directly from art department concept and design references.
• Deliver assets that meet the technical specifications of the production pipeline, ensuring compatibility across Modeling, Rigging, and Surfacing departments.
• Participate in the development of grooming tools used within the department, contributing practical feedback based on production workflow experience.
• Execute revisions requested by the Groom Supervisor and Director, incorporating notes accurately within allocated production timelines.
• Organize your own workload and prepare asset presentations for review by the Supervisor and client, keeping work clearly packaged and on schedule.
• Communicate proactively when information is needed and maintain a constructive working relationship within the groom team.

What You Bring

• Mid-level production experience in character grooming for animated feature film or episodic animation projects.
• Hands-on proficiency with Blender as a primary grooming tool within a studio VFX pipeline or animation production environment.
• Familiarity with cross-department asset workflows, specifically how groom assets interact with rigging, surfacing, and rendering systems.
• Ability to meet production quotas set by production coordinators and manage personal deadlines without close supervision.
• Experience reading and interpreting concept art to translate artistic intent into technical hair and fur descriptions.
