Sony Pictures Imageworks is hiring a Senior Unreal Lighter for their studio in Montréal, Quebec. This role sits within the lighting department and is responsible for delivering final rendered images out of Unreal Engine on animated feature film productions. It suits an experienced lighter who is equally comfortable solving technical pipeline problems and making strong artistic decisions with minimal supervision.

About the Role

The Senior Unreal Lighter works within the CG lighting team under CG supervision, contributing to feature film animation projects at a studio known for high-output, technically complex productions. Day-to-day work involves owning shots from setup through final delivery in Unreal Engine, matching approved key frames, and interfacing directly with compositing, VFX, animation, and layout teams. The role requires fluency in both French and English, as the lighting tools and many cross-department collaborators operate primarily in English.

Key Responsibilities

• Create final rendered and delivered images from Unreal Engine under the direction of the CG supervisor or lighting lead.
• Present shot progress during dailies and reviews, then incorporate artistic and technical notes with accuracy and efficiency.
• Manage all aspects of shot lighting end-to-end, including troubleshooting technical issues that arise within the VFX pipeline.
• Maintain quota and efficiency targets in line with production schedules across the animated feature film slate.
• Coordinate with production and creative teams to flag and resolve any issues affecting visual consistency or technical compliance.
• Match approved key shots established by the lighting leads, ensuring continuity across sequences.

What You Bring

• More than 5 years of production experience in VFX, feature film animation, or games.
• More than 2 years of hands-on production lighting experience specifically inside Unreal Engine.
• Working knowledge of Katana, Arnold, and Nuke, or comparable lighting, compositing, and global illumination rendering software.
• Solid understanding of lighting concepts including color key breakdowns, scalable sequence lighting setups, and compositing patterns.
• A demo reel that demonstrates skills earned in prior production environments, not personal or academic projects.
• Strong communication skills in both French and English.
