Job Position(s): Actor(s) needed - Paid non equity
Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Boreas Theatre is seeking four actors for paid, non-equity performer roles in an immersive comedy production based in Picton, Ontario. These are major speaking and physical roles in a live theatrical production where performers work directly among the audience throughout an interactive wedding ceremony and reception. This work suits actors with strong improv instincts and character comedy experience, whether they come from stage, sketch, live performance, or any other performance background.

About the Role

This is a non-equity live performance production staged as an immersive audience experience, placing actors in continuous scene work with guests throughout the full event. The four roles available are the Groom, the Ex-Boyfriend, the Caterer and MC, and the Father of the Groom, each with distinct character arcs that run the length of the show. A typical performance requires sustained character commitment, in-the-moment audience interaction, and the ability to handle improvised scenes that shift depending on how guests respond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform one of four featured comedy roles in a live immersive theatre production, maintaining character throughout the ceremony and reception without a traditional stage separation from the audience.
  • Improvise scene work and audience interactions in real time, responding to guests while staying true to the character’s established arc and relationships.
  • Attend scheduled rehearsals on Sundays and Thursday evenings to build ensemble chemistry and develop the physical and comedic language of the production.
  • Create a bold, specific character built for a live performance context, with physical choices and vocal presence that read clearly in an in-the-round, crowd-immersed environment.
  • Collaborate on blocking and improvised sequences with the full cast to maintain narrative coherence across a show that changes with every audience.
  • Perform for audiences of invited guests in a wedding reception setting, handling comedic escalation, emotional beats, and character-driven conflict across the full runtime.

What You Bring

  • Experience in live performance, improv comedy, sketch, theatrical performance, or any combination of stage work that demonstrates comfort in front of an audience.
  • Strong comic timing and the confidence to make bold character choices without the safety net of a fourth wall.
  • Applicants must be 18 or older due to mature themes in the production.
  • Formal theatre training is not required, and all experience levels are welcome to audition.
  • Ability to commit to the full rehearsal and performance schedule, including Sunday and Thursday evening rehearsals leading into the run.

Why This Role

Boreas Theatre is producing a fully realized immersive comedy with a clear production structure, a paid non-equity contract, and four genuinely substantial roles that give performers room to build real characters across a full show. This is not a background or atmosphere role, each of the four actor positions carries the production. Picton, Ontario is the production base, and the company is actively building a cast now with rehearsals underway.

Apply now for the actor positions at Boreas Theatre and bring your character work to one of the more unusual live performance opportunities available in Ontario right now.
