Job Position(s): Actor Rehearsal & Performance Assistant
Project Type: Short Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $20/hr

Oculus Films LLC is hiring an Actor Rehearsal and Performance Assistant for in-person work in Stamford, CT. This role sits at the intersection of voice and speech coaching and scene work support, helping an actor build consistent, camera-ready performances across multiple short film projects. It suits someone with a background in actor training, conservatory-level scene work, or voice and speech who is comfortable giving direct, constructive feedback in a professional setting.

About the Role

The Actor Rehearsal and Performance Assistant works one-on-one with a principal actor during active preparation for short film production, functioning as a rehearsal partner, speech monitor, and performance observer across scheduled sessions in a corporate office building in Stamford. A typical day runs six hours and involves reading scenes, tracking script, listening for General American speech consistency, and reviewing recorded takes together with the actor. This is not a background or administrative position, it requires genuine fluency in both phonetics and scene analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read opposite the actor during scene work rehearsals, tracking script for line accuracy and flagging deviations in real time.
  • Monitor General American speech throughout sessions, identifying inconsistencies in vowel and consonant production, aspiration patterns for /p/, /t/, and /k/, and connected speech habits including linking and pacing.
  • Record rehearsal takes using a smartphone or provided camera and review footage with the actor to identify specific technical and performance adjustments.
  • Provide clear, respectful feedback on performance elements including character objectives, actions, beats, and scene intentions as they read on camera.
  • Track rhythm, intonation, and word and sentence stress patterns across takes to help the actor maintain a consistent General American dialect baseline.
  • Manage shifting rehearsal priorities across a four-day-per-week schedule, adapting to changing focus areas as short film production preparation evolves.

What You Bring

  • Training at an acting school or conservatory, with coursework in voice and speech, scene study, or performance technique considered a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of General American phonetics, including aspiration rules, connected speech, and natural intonation patterns.
  • Comfort analyzing scene work through the lens of objectives, actions, beats, and given circumstances.
  • Basic camera operation using a smartphone or equivalent, sufficient to record and playback rehearsal footage.
  • Availability to commit to a minimum three-month engagement at approximately 24 hours per week, with scheduling across weekdays, weekends, or both.

Why This Role

Oculus Films LLC is actively developing short film projects and is building a consistent rehearsal process that supports the actor through production preparation, which means this position has real continuity and defined workflow rather than day-call uncertainty. The schedule is structured at roughly 24 hours per week, generally 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM across four days, with each six-hour day including two paid 10-minute breaks. Compensation is $20.00 per hour, $120 per scheduled day, and approximately $2,000 per month on a regular four-day schedule, with Oculus Films hiring immediately.
