Skydance Media is hiring a 2nd Assistant Editor to join their animation editorial team in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. This role sits inside the post-production workflow of a feature animation studio, supporting the editorial department with media management, sound prep, and output across every stage of picture and sound. About the Role

The 2nd Assistant Editor at Skydance Media works directly within the animation editorial department, supporting both picture and sound across feature animation production. Day to day, that means importing and distributing storyboard and shot media, processing scratch dialogue from recording sessions, and managing outputs ranging from Quicktimes to AAFs to DCPs. This is a hands-on, systems-oriented position where organizational precision directly affects the editorial team’s ability to cut efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Import and distribute storyboard and shot media, maintaining accurate tracking as assets move through the animation post-production workflow.
• Break down dialogue, monitor recording levels, and log and transcribe scratch and production dialogue sessions, including setting up video reference cameras for talent.
• Prepare preliminary music and sound effects and maintain the production sound and music databases for editorial access.
• Publish cut lists and output sequences to Shotgun, ensuring delivery of digital files including Quicktimes, AAFs, change notes, and DCPs to internal and external recipients.
• Perform quality control on both picture and sound media, and operate the screening room to support presentation needs.
• Handle daily Avid operational maintenance and work with technical staff to troubleshoot and refine editorial systems as production demands change.

What You Bring

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Assistant Editor, with at least 3 years of hands-on work in Avid Media Composer or Film Composer.
• Proficiency in Macintosh OS, with working knowledge of Pro Tools, Shotgun, After Effects, Photoshop, FLIX, and Microsoft Suite considered a strong asset.
• Familiarity with animation editorial workflows, including storyboard pipelines, animatic prep, and scratch dialogue processing.
• Membership in good standing with the IATSE Local 700 Motion Picture Editors Guild, or the ability to obtain membership.
• Availability to work on-site in Santa Monica 3 to 5 days per week, with flexibility for overtime including nights and weekends as production requires.
