Job Position(s): Production Assistant
Project Type: Commercial
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $44,160 - $60,720/year

ESPN, Inc. is hiring a Production Assistant based in Los Angeles, CA to join ESPN NEXT, the network’s structured entry-level program for early-career content creators. This role sits across studio production, live events, digital, social, and audio platforms, with hands-on output ranging from highlight edits and show opens to graphics coordination and live broadcast support. It suits someone who knows sports media from the inside out and wants a real production credit at one of the most recognized names in sports broadcasting.

About the Role

The Production Assistant position sits within ESPN NEXT, a dedicated pipeline program that pairs new hires with mentors and moves performers toward promotion up to four times per year. Day to day, this person rotates through live event production workflow, studio telecasts, and multi-platform content, covering domestic and global sports properties across the ESPN portfolio. Shifts run mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays because live sports production does not follow a standard schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit video and audio elements for highlights, teases, opens, and montages across linear, digital, and social platforms.
  • Run the audio board during live broadcasts, including loading playlists and logging commercials, sales spots, and promos.
  • Coordinate graphics for assigned studio telecasts and remote live events, working directly within the broadcast production workflow.
  • Research and source content for shows and networks covering NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, and college sports properties.
  • Gather video and sponsorship elements to support live event production on location and in the studio.
  • Pitch creative ideas for multi-platform storytelling across ESPN’s linear, digital, and audio output.

What You Bring

  • Conversational knowledge of major sports covered by ESPN, including NBA, WNBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and college football and basketball.
  • Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro is preferred.
  • Prior exposure to a live sports, news, or entertainment production environment is a plus.
  • Awareness of how content moves across linear television, digital, and social platforms.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.

Why This Role

ESPN NEXT is a real development track, not just an entry-level holding pattern, with access to the NEXT Accelerator program for top performers and structured promotion eligibility tied directly to output. The hiring range for this Production Assistant role in Los Angeles, CA is $44,160 to $60,720 per year based on a 40-hour work week, with actual pay reflecting experience, skills, and internal equity. For anyone building a career in sports media production, the volume and variety of content this role touches across live event production and studio programming is hard to match.

Apply now for the Production Assistant opening at ESPN, Inc. and take the first step into a working career in sports broadcast production.
